Culpepers Quinoa Flakes

Culpepers have launched Quinoa Flakes in a 700g bag.

The white quinoa seed is rolled flat to make a flake, just like rolled oats. It is important to first rinse the flakes to remove the quinoa's natural coating. Called saponin, it makes the flakes taste soapy and bitter. Use a 1 to 3 ratio of quinoa flakes to water. Boil the water, add the flakes and stir for about 90 seconds. Let sit for a minute or two and they're ready to use.

Quinoa flakes make the most amazing, creamy hot cereals. They have a smoother texture than oats.

Quinoa flakes act as a binder and are perfect for making "no-bake" treats like granola clusters.

Quinoa is wheat gluten-free, high in plant-based protein and full of good fibre.

Saponins serve and important purpose when the quinoa is still growing. They deter insects from eating it.
